Below the stand is an old roadway and below that is an alluvial terrace with forest and a large tributary stream with some areas of scoured cobble woodland. Areas of this slope have successional white pine dominance, the contrast between these types may be due to duration of farming?;East aspect slope with sub-mesic forest on past cleared land with scattered rock piles. Forest dominated by Quercus alba with Q. rubra, Liriodendron tulipifera with Acer saccharum, Tilia etc. coming up. Many of the largest trees grow from the rock piles. High herb diversity including abundant Carex cumberlandensis.

Oak-tulip poplar forest on past cleared land. Plot captures some of the variety of canopy composition of stand - other areas have more or less tulip poplar, red oak, beech, hemlock etc.
